Today as I was trundling along to work in the bus, I saw three stylish people of totally different kens. It was raining. Not a tropical thunderstorm, but not a slight drizzle. Somewhere in between, with enough heavy grey cloud to obscure the sun and create a moody highland feel. The temperature was cool too and it was the first time I was in a turtleneck for some months now.
An elderly gentleman with a Burberry-checked polo tee (imitation), a monogram print LV belt (imitation), and a Mr. Men umbrella. He was pretty much a walking billboard for these immediately-recognisable brands, but yet put together, they suited him well.
There was a spikey-haired young man at a bus-stop who was dressed in a blue plaid shirt, sleeves rolled up halfway, with drainpipe dusty grey jeans, Converse sneakers, and a matching plaid umbrella, also in hues of blue.
There was a middle-aged lady with bobbed hair, in a plain tee-shirt, high-waisted flares, and suspenders crossed at the back, and stacked heels. She was carrying a brown Mulberry satchel and a cream-coloured umbrella, slightly leaning forward against the wind.
When I got to work, the very first email that I opened contained a link to President Barack Obama's website. And the very first article off the top was First Lady Michelle's Christmas message to all. And all morning, there have been songs for joyeux noel ringing in the speakers in the background.
All of this has put me in a rather sombre and inflective mood. It isn't often that Christmas in the tropics really FEELS like the wintry hallowed time of hope and peace, but this year, it does. And yes, we need it. We need prayer and love and consideration for others. We need measured words and even tempers. We even need restraint and reflection. And thus will we welcome a new and better year.
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
